When we make our trips out to the camps we always take books with us.
A few of our guys ask for them, one of them we have nicknamed Book Reader.
A very quiet, polite guy who spends his day listening to his radio and reading.
It took us quite a while for him to trust us enough to take food, after turning us down three or four times, I finally told Richard I am making him a bag of food up today.
Sure enough when we got to his camp I made him a bag and walked back to see him leaning against a tree reading a book.
I said how’s it going and he responded what’s that? I said a bag of food for you, now you can eat it or leave it, but I’m not taking it back out of the woods.
Now he looks forward to our trips to his camp, he loves snacks.
I have come to believe that when you are alone and reading you can become anyone, from any where…you want to be…or as C.S. Lewis said “We read to know we are not alone.”
