Have you ever met someone unexpectedly and they changed your life forever?
Oh I’m not talking about someone famous, someone rich, or someone offering me a job.
I am talking about a homeless man…a homeless man named Danny.
I met a man his name is Danny…you call him homeless…I call him a caring heart and loving person…
Our Hearts staff was doing a food drive for our homeless friends, partnered with our friend Jim Seals and Three Wheel Drive one night two years ago, when this man approached us, and looked in the bins to see what we had.
I assumed he would ask for some help because he had already mentioned being homeless, after looking he opened his back pack up and gave us the items you see in this picture.
As he did he began to cry, when Angie asked him why he was crying he said because you are all better than I am, you are trying to help others.
My friend you gave MORE than most people. Your donation was more valuable than most peoples, you reminded me of the widow who gave all she had, two mites.
Danny got on his bike and rode away into the darkness, sadly that was the last time we saw him.
When we went back that way again another homeless man told us that Danny had died.
We met once, but everyday I think of him, the look on his face, and the tears that he shed.
I truly believe that God sent Danny to us that day in his own way, and in his own time, to show us that our work is important, not for praise or glory…but it is what He would have his children to do for others.
As I write this I am looking at the gifts of love that our friend Danny donated.
These items will never leave our side, they are an inspiration, and reminder of why we do what we do.
