“Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.” Roger Miller
To many he was a useless street person, who never amounted to anything.
Then there are those of us who truly knew him, sadly we lost one of our friends this week, his name was Ron. Preliminary reports are that he froze in an old car he lived in.
Ron and I go way back to my days of being a Corrections Officer, he was loud, proud, and yet there were times when he was quiet and humble. Two souls in one body, two entirely different people in one body.
I will never forget the first time he threw a supper tray back at me, and said don’t feed me no silver cake! Well I learned that silver cake to an inmate is the two end pieces of the loaf of bread. Don’t ever do it yourself, let a rookie officer feel the fun of it getting thrown at him or her LOL.
You would see Ron walking around our little town, stopping people he knew to ask for fifty cents, or a dollar, to buy his can of beer for the day.
I spoke to him Tuesday and he asked for $2.00, he had that big smile on his face, and headed to the store.
Ron will be missed, he walked in the rain, he didn’t just get wet.
Most of the people in our town didn’t know him, but the few that he allowed to call him friend loved him…and he loved us…
