“Decorate your own Soul, instead of waiting on someone to bring flowers to you.” Veronica A Shoffstall
Thomas is all of five foot five, and maybe 160 lbs, he has a lot of health issues and uses a cane to steady his walking.
I’ve know him for several years, his life has not been easy, but he has always been honest with me, that’s more than I can say for some who are not homeless.
His memory is fading, and it sometimes plays tricks on him, countless times he has called my phone, and no one would be on the other end when I answered, I usually hear him talking to someone in the background.
There is not a week that goes by that goes by when he fails to call and ask if we are bringing him a hot plate of food, because in his words, “I was just sitting here and wondering what I was going to eat.”
He lives in a shell of a home, there is no central air, the door allows what little breeze the Alabama summers yield to enter into his house. The grass is knee deep, and there is always a dog barking when we pull up.
Honestly, this man has nothing to offer anyone, especially someone homeless or does he?
Thomas recently shared with me that the nine people camped in the woods around his home come to his house to take a shower, and to spend a few moments out of the blaring sun. This is all he has to offer, but he does it willingly, and to a homeless person it is a priceless gift…
So to my friend I say thank you, thank you for giving more than most of society does… to the invisible people…
